Didache (Chapter 4)
You shall daily seek out the faces of the saints, so that you may find rest in their words.
Didache 4
My child, you shall remember the one who preaches the word of God to you by night and by day. And you shall honor him as the Lord. For where the Lord’s nature is preached, there is the Lord. And you shall daily seek out the faces of the saints, so that you may find rest in their words. You shall not cause division, but you shall reconcile those who quarrel. You shall judge righteously. You shall not show partiality, so that you may reprove transgressions.
You shall not be holding out your hands when it comes to receiving, but drawing them together when it comes to giving. If you have something through the work of your hands, you shall give it as a ransom for your sins. You shall not waver in giving, nor shall you grumble when giving, for you know the One who is the noble paymaster of reward. You shall not turn away the one in need, but you shall share everything with your brother, and you shall not say something is your own. For if you are sharers in what is perishable, how much more ought you to be in what is imperishable. You shall not withdraw your hand from your son or from your daughter, but from their youth you shall teach the fear of God. You shall not command your male servant or your female servant, who hope in the same God, in your bitterness, lest they no longer fear God, who is over both of you. For He does not come to call with partiality, but upon those whom the Spirit has prepared. And as for you who are slaves, submit to your lords as to the type of God in reverence and fear.
You shall hate all hypocrisy and everything that is not pleasing to the Lord. You shall not forsake the commandments of the Lord, but you shall guard that which you have received, neither by adding nor by taking away. In church you shall confess your transgressions, and you shall not come to prayer with a bad conscience. This is the way of life.
