Didache (Chapter 16)
Let not your lamps be extinguished.
Didache 16
Watch over your life. Let not your lamps be extinguished, and let not your loins become ungirded. But be prepared, for you do not know the hour in which our Lord comes. And you shall gather together frequently, seeking the things that are becoming to your souls. For all the time of your faith will not help you if you are not found perfected in the last time. For in the last days false prophets and corrupters shall abound, and the sheep will be changed to wolves, and love will be changed to hate. For as lawlessness increases, they will hate and persecute and betray one another. And then the deceiver of the world shall appear as the son of God, and he will do signs and wonders and the earth will be delivered into his hands, and he will do wanton things which have never happened since the beginning. Then the creation of men will come into the fiery examination, and many shall be led into sin and perish, but those who have endured in their faith shall be saved by the accursed one Himself. And then the signs of truth shall appear: first, a sign that is an opening in heaven; second, a sign that is the shout of a trumpet; and third, the resurrection of the dead. But not of all, as it was said, “The Lord will come and all His saints with Him.” Then the world shall see the Lord coming upon the clouds of heaven.
